They arrived on Saturday and after their arrival we went to the Temple. Oh that was a wonderful event! The Manti temple is truly gorgeous, I mean as in STUNNING inside!

After the temple we went out to eat at El Mexicano Mexican restaurant in Salina. This is Megan's favorite restaurant and the Messemer's loved it too.

Sunday they came to church with us. They were very impressed by the friendliness of the people in our ward. Tricia met a man she is related to and they had a wonderful time. They went to the Monroe City cemetery and he showed Tricia all kinds of family graves, and filled her in on a lot of family history. Tricia was also able to fill him in on some stories he didn't know. They were at the cemetery for a couple hours. Tricia was very excited and wants to come back because brother Hutchinson said he has a whole trunk of pictures to show her. After church Megan and Victor came over and we had halibut, polish sausage, corn on the cob, and fried apples. It was really good and I learned that halibut isn't half bad!!

Monday we took them to Bryce Canyon National Park and spent most of the day there. Ray and Tricia LOVED the park. I will post several pictures:
We saw this yard that had skeletons all over and some dinosaurs, a gorilla and lots of other strange things. It was fun to take some pictures of it all.

When we got home we went to the little Mexican restaurant here in Monroe for dinner. This place used to be SO good, but we found out it is under new ownership and the food was nowhere near as good, plus there was less quantity but for more money. Very sad. We probably won't be going there anymore. :(

Tuesday Dan and Ray went for a drive up near fish lake and checked out the wildlife while Tricia and I went into town and did some shopping.

Then we came home and went to the senior center for lunch and after that, the Messemer's left to go visit their daughter in Kerns.

It was a really nice visit with them. We sure are blessed to have such good friends!

So, until next time Ray and Tricia....WE LOVE YOU!!
So much has happened since my last post. I had surgery on my head. I had an acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor deep inside my ear resting on my balance nerve which caused me to walk like a total drunk. On December 19, 2013 I had surgery to have it removed. It has been a rather long road back.
Hospital pictures of my surgery. It is now a little more than 5 months post surgery and I am still having some balance issues but my incision is finally feeling pretty much healed.

My balance issues come mostly on uneven surfaces, in the wind or in the dark, and on unfamiliar turf.

Immediately after my surgery, the right side of my face was paralyzed. I couldn't smile with the right side, my right eye didn't work properly. I went to physical therapy for my face and regained full use of everything. I can even whistle again which I couldn't do before.

We have now been here in Monroe for a year and we are all settled in. It has been a good year. The best part has been Megan getting pregnant and watching her bloom in her pregnancy. They are having a boy. They don't have a name yet, or if they do, they're not saying what it is. I was teasing Megan for a long time by calling the baby "Herkimer"!!

I am so excited to be here and be able to be with her to help her when the baby comes.

I threw a baby shower for Megan and the baby. It was a LOT of fun!
I went up to Montana in May to see Jacob, Heather, Ben and Gwen. Oh what fun I had! Jacob had to work, so I didn't get to see him until he was off work, but then we did have all day Saturday together. We went to the zoo twice. Well, Heather and I took the kids one day, then Jacob, Heather and I took the kids again on Saturday. We also went to parks to play and I took some family pictures of them.

I had so much fun with Heather! What a gem she is! I loved getting to know her even better as we spent time together teasing each other, laughing, joking and playing with the kids.
And finally, bringing us up to date, Dan and I just celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. We went to Bryce Canyon National Park to camp for the weekend. It was gloriously beautiful!

The last 16 years being married to Dan have been the most wonderful, best, happiest years of my life. He does so much for me and for us and for our kids and grandkids. I'm so grateful to and for him.

What a wonderful year we've had! Lots of great camping and travel trips, Let me give you a run-down. To start, we moved from Montana to south central Utah. It was a great move and we are glad we did it....but I have to admit I REALLY miss Jacob and Heather and Ben and Gwen. We try to Skype at least once a week, but preferably twice a week.
The pictures above are of Gwendalyn and Benjamin. Jacob and Heather's two darlings! It's nice to be closer to all the grandlittles that are here in Utah, but it's still hard to be away from the ones that aren't here in Utah. We have 4 here in Utah and 6 not in Utah, with one (here in Utah) on the way.
On of the greatest moments of the summer was being able to go to Michigan to attend the wedding of my cousin Mandi DeGregory Zimmerman. It was the first time we have ever met each other. She is my biological cousin, and since I was given up for adoption, I never met her before this. It was wonderful. I met several other cousins as well and had a wonderful time! Isn't she a gorgeous bride!
Our first 24th of July in Utah. For those who don't know, July 24th is a Utah state holiday honoring the day the early Mormon pioneers arrived in Utah and took residence, finally able to escape the mobs and persecution that plagued them from New York to Illinois, Missouri and everywhere they tried to live and worship God according to the dictates of their own hearts. Freedom of Religion was not something they were able to enjoy until they landed in Utah.
Where's Mari? Yes, there is something (or someone) in the trees. I didn't notice for a long time, but, look closely!

It is one week and two days after my surgery on the Acoustic Neuroma. It was wildly successful and I''m feeling pretty darn good! I am having an issue with my right eye because it doesn't want to shut properly and it feels VERY rough and scratched. I have called my Dr. again to see what to do about it. Just waiting for his office to call me back.

I am so grateful for my surgeons and all the rest of the medical staff who cared for me. I understand I was NOT a very good patient while in the hospital. I guess I decided to pull out my IV and my Catheter and just get out of bed and tried to take off somewhere! They had to restrain me to get me back in bed and then I guess Dan had to stay there with me to keep me from doing it again. What a brat I was!!

I am already able to walk around on my own volition and not need my cane or walker. At least in the house, I haven't tried to go to the store yet, but I'm thinking I will today.

We will be having a quiet Christmas here at the house, we had a big Thanksgiving, but decided to just have a small Christmas, likely it will be just Dan and me. We will be getting Megan and Victor baby items for Christmas since they announced to us at Thanksgiving that they are finally pregnant!! We are SO very happy for them. They had been trying for awhile to get pregnant.

I am trying to figure out what to get Dan for Christmas this year. Any ideas anyone? It's hard to know what to get a guy that seems to have everything. I mean come on....he has me, what else does he need?? LOL!! I know, I'll get him a diamond studded bellybutton cleaner!! hehehehehe!!!

We wish all of you a very wonderful Holiday season. May your blessings be great and your troubles be few. May you feel the spirit of the season and have good health and much happiness in the coming year.

Love to you all....Dan and Mari Catherine
Once a year the primary children do the sacrament meeting. In my class we have a young man (he's 6) who is pretty squirmy so I had him sit on my lap. Then he suddenly looked up to me and said "Teacher?" and I said "yes" and he said "I love you" and I told him I love him too. Then he started doing the sign language symbols for "I love you"

Everyone thinks Michael is "a handful" and he is, but with some love, patience and guidance, he's a sweet boy. He did get mad at me when I made him put the dinosaur he brought from home on the floor and didn't let him play with it during our lesson. But oh well....whats a teacher to do!!
It's called Acoustic Neuroma. The tumor is resting on my balance tissue and my hearing tissue. If it continues to grow, it could go into my brain and that would be fatal.

The surgery will be about 4 hours, they will shave that part of my head, make an incision, cut out a section of my skull, and lift the part of my brain under that section of skull and go in to get the tumor out. In the process, they'll have to sever my balance nerve permanently and until my left ear can fully compensate for the right ear, I'll be even more unbalanced. There is also a 50/50 chance I will lose all hearing in that ear.

I have been given a priesthood blessing, and that helped me feel calm, but I am still fairly nervous. I wish I could hurry up and get it done instead of waiting until Dec.9, but oh well, what can I do!

Of course everyone has been incredibly kind and helpful. Many have expressed that they are praying for me and you can imagine, it is very comforting to me to know that I am being prayed for like that.
So, thankful to all my friends and family who are and will pray for me!

In all honesty, I am a little nervous, but I know that whatever happens, it's the Lord's will and so everything will be ok.
This summer was crazy busy, very eventful and I have some great stories and pictures to share.
One of the very best highlights of the summer was Dan and I flying to Michigan to meet my cousins there and attend the wedding of my cousin Mandi DeGregory Zimmerman. She was a stunning bride, and my other cousins were so warm, gracious and inclusive. It was really fun.

We flew our usual standby status, and had no problems getting to Detroit, but getting back to SLC was a whole different story. We couldn't get out of Detroit, so someone told us to fly to Seattle and then back to SLC, so we flew to SeaTac. Sadly, we couldn't get on a flight that day, so we ended up sleeping in the airport. (NO FUN!) The next morning, we started trying to get on flights starting with the very first one at 6:30 am....but, we couldn't get on three flights in a row, so Dan got frustrated and said to heck with it, and we went and rented a car one way, and drove. We left Seattle about 11 am and pulled into our driveway about 5:30 the next morning. Dan drove it all the way through. We did have to make a pit stop to return the rental car and find our car at the SLC airport. We got there about 3am and we were parked in the Economy lot, so I was really glad that there was a shuttle bus to take us out there and that the driver could call someone and find out the spot where we were parked.

The fun we had at Mandi's wedding was so worth all the flight craziness though. I'm glad we went!

Megan and I did some canning together this year and it was so much fun to do it together! We canned peaches, and apples and Megan made some salsa. With the Peaches, we made peach jam, and canned peaches, and with the apples we did applebutter, applesauce, and apple pie filling. When we started, the laundry basket in the picture below was almost over flowing with apples. There is a place here in Monroe that lets you just go pick as many as you want, and leave what ever you think they are worth in a little lock box.
We did this in my kitchen just because it is bigger and had more room...but it was a blast doing it together!

We went on some pretty spectacular camping trips near home, and to the
North Kaibab. Oh my goodness, the North Kaibab was incredible. Kaibab is the Paiute Indian word for "mountain laying down" It is just a huge plateau. Here are some pictures of our trip to the North Kaibab
This is the "Lady in Repose" as Dan named her about 30 some odd years ago when he worked here in the Forestry Service. As you can see, she was carved into the tree in 1908....over ONE HUNDRED years ago! WOW!!! Very cool!
WOW!!! We got our garage built! It only took the Tuff Shed guys two days, well, more accurately 1 1/2 days to get it done. We still need to have the electrician come and put the electricity in, then Dan will build some shelving for storage, and then we can empty our storage shed and bring everything over here.

I'm glad Dan still has to build the shelves just because he loves puttering and making things.

The weather the last couple days has been in the triple digits. I felt so bad for the workers, so Dan and I went and bought them a super lot of gatorade to help keep them hydrated. It was fascinating to watch them, and I am SO excited to be able to park my car out of the heat of these super hot summer days.
We've really been up and down the crazy ladder with trying to move. We had a wonderful family who wanted our house in the worst way, but, the loan fell apart thanks to the stupid appraiser who said we had to connect our septic tank to the city sewer system which would cost close to $10,000.00. There was no way they could afford that.
I really hope they do find a home that works for them. They are first time home buyers and it's stressful enough, let alone when something like that happens.

The day that deal fell through, I succumbed to Type A Influenza and landed in the hospital for a few days. Not fun. I'm so tired of being in the hospital. Dan is too. It stresses him out so much for me to be there.

The day I got out of the hospital though, our realtor called with a super sweet offer on our house. The couple are retiring from California to Montana, and their daughter walked through our house with her phone doing a "face time" with them and showed them the whole thing. They evidently loved it, and made us a super good offer, of $195,000 put down $2,000 earnest money, and they didn't even ask us to pay any closing costs. Up, that's a deal we just couldn't resist!! So, now the deal is that the inspection is done by March 15, and, we are hoping that the first inspection, already done for the first buyers can be sold to the new buyers. Dan already did a lot of the work for that inspection, so we're hoping there won't be anything else that needs to be done. AND they have such good credit scores, they won't even need to have an appraisal done. YIPEE!!

Our closing date is April 15. so barring any unforseen circumstances, we'll be out of here before very long!

Did I already post pictures of the house in Monroe? I think I did, but perhaps I should go check and if not, I'll post some here. OK, well, I just went and looked and didn't see any pictures of the house in Monroe, so I'll post some here now...
Isn't it a great house! The laundry room is as big as a bedroom, so that will be a great place for the dogs. We will have to build a garage and fence the yard, so there's some work to be done there, but that will keep Dan busy, and he's looking forward to that.

We are also planning on working as campground hosts at LeBaron Lake in Utah. We'll be there from Memorial Day until Labor Day. It will be a fun way to spend the summer!

So, plan to come see us after we get set up!

Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-17259700010645494432012-10-12T17:37:00.002-06:002012-10-12T17:37:54.864-06:00LATEST HOSPITAL STAY...WHAT A SCAREOn Sept 17th, I went to bed feeling just fine. Then, I came to 3 days later, in the ICU, with an intubation tube down my throat, my arms tied to the bed rails, and nurses and doctors all around me. I had no idea what day or time it was, or where I was or why I was there. All I knew was that the tube down my throat was driving me crazy and being as claustrophobic as I am having my hands tied to the bed was really making me nutszoid. They had me tied to the bed so I couldn't pull the tube out of my throat. I managed to do it anyway though and the Dr. was very concerned. They told me that I could have pulled my vocal chords right out and never been able to talk again. Can you imagine that? ME, not able to talk....that would be torture!!

So, I was in the ICU for 6 days as they fought the pneumonia and the sepsis that had invaded my blood system. After 6 days in ICU, I was moved to a regular room and spent an additional 5 days there. My veins had collapsed and they had a very difficult time getting IV lines running, and in the process hit a nerve in my wrist and now if I bump that spot it shoots pain from that spot, out of my finger tips kind of like a super hero shooting fire from her fingers. But I also have a spot on the fleshy part of the thumb of that hand that is completely numb. Very strange.

I was so blessed while in the hospital though, Dan was by my side, the Bishop came and gave Dan and I both blessings, we had so many prayers being said for us. Megan posted to my FB page so all my FB friends would be praying for me as well.

Last night I did a sleep study, and today was prescribed a CPAP mask and equipment. I need to make an appointment to go check them out and get fitted for what I need. I just really hope and pray that this will be the last time I get pneumonia, that the CPAP machine will help me keep my lungs clear.

0nce I was coherent, I asked Dan to ask visitors to come. it was good for my spirits, being the "people person" I am. I know if it had been Dan in that situation, he probably wouldn't have wanted anyone but me to be with him, but, we are very different in that way. He did send out text messages asking people to come visit, but, even then, he was the keeper of the gate, only allowing one or two people in at a time, and if I was exceptionally tired, he would ask people to wait and let me rest.

Jacob would come in at 4:30 am after he got off work. The security guards let him come in at that time when he explained to them that he just got off work and he was coming to see his mom. It was funny to wake up in the middle of the night and have Jake standing there. I had no idea what time or day it was, but I was so glad to have him there. I know Megan called regularly to check on me, and she wanted very badly to come up but just couldn't make it happen. Mom Pratt also said the whole family was fasting for me. I know that all made a huge difference for me, and I truly believe that pulled me through.

So thanks to everyone who fasted, prayed, came to visit, brought food etc. I am feeling much better, although when Dan and I go for walks, I do have to use my inhaler, sometimes several times, but that's ok...at least I can go walking. I try to go a little farther every day.

So, that's pretty much it in a nutshell for now. Y'all have a great day, until next time.....ttfn! She and our daughter Megan were good friends, and when Jessica's mother abandoned her and took off to Arizona with some guy, she came to our house. She has been part of our family ever since.
She got married on Sept. 8th and it was wonderful to be there with and for her. Her husband's name is Dan De Leon and he's a wonderful guy.

We came back from our visit with Megan and Victor to be at Jess's wedding, and it was well worth it. Although we didn't stay very long after the ceremony, they pulled out the keg and I felt like that was a good time for us to take off
...besides...Michigan was playing football and I sure didn't want to miss my game! (which we won!!)
Dan, Jessica and me.
So, let me go back to our visit with Megan and Victor. We had a great time with them. We went house hunting and found two we really liked, so now it's a matter of prayer to make sure moving to central Utah is something we really want to do. It will be hard to leave Jacob, Heather, Ben and Gwen, (Gwen is the baby girl they are pregnant with now, she's due on Dec. 24) But we have more grandkids and kids down in Utah, so it will be a tough call, we'll see what the Lord has in store for us.

Well my friends, it's time for ice cream!! Love y'all!
He went to the hospital on Sunday<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">, the 12 in extreme pain. They thought at first he had a bowel obstruction and put an NG tube down his nose and into his abdomen to try to break it up. He was on morphine every three hours for his pain. The second day the pain from the obstruction had subsided, but the pain had moved to his right upper quadrant. They did an ultra-sound and found that his gall bladder was LOADED with stones and "slush". They decided surgery was needed and scheduled him for Wednesday morning. We were so blessed that Dr. Maier was the Dr. to do the surgery because he was the same surgeon that did Dan's gastric bypass surgery in 2005, so we know him and have every confidence in him.

So the night before his surgery, Dan had a bit of a panic attack and scared the crap out of me. He started shaking really, really bad. I thought maybe he was cold and went and got him a couple warm blankets, one for over his shoulder and one for across his front. He still kept shaking so I went and got his nurses. His blood pressure had dropped to 80/47, his temp was 102, his heart rate was 145 and his blood sugars were 201. Everything was messed up. The nurses got on the phone with the Docs and did everything they could do to bring him back to normal. The Doctors were prepared to go in and do his surgery that night on an emergency basis, but, those amazing, incredible nurses got everything back in order.

After his surgery his surgeon came to see me and told me Dan had a gangrenous gall bladder and that it was a darn good thing we got him in there when we did. So, let me give you a bit of ironic timeline going on for him right now. I already mentioned that he had the surgery on his 60th birthday....August 15th. Now, he is retiring from 37 years of Federal service on Sept. 1 and they are having his retirement party on August 22nd. Which is this Wednesday. We are hoping he feels well enough to go to his party. After that, we'll see if he makes a few days back to work before retirement!

Once he's retired, we are free! our first trip is to go see Megan and her husband Victor. They are doing the bow elk hunt down there where they live. Dan wasn't able to draw for the bow hunt in their area, so we'll just be hanging out with them. Then we go to New Mexico for a nephews birthday, then to Oklahoma for a nieces wedding, then to Michigan so I can meet some of my biological family I've never met, and then to Ann Arbor to see more family and hopefully to take in a University of Michigan football game, then on to Rochester, Michigan where I grew up. On the way back, we'll go through Minnesota to see some of Dan's family. It will be a long trip , so we're really hoping Dan is all better by then.

Well, I am grateful for all the prayers and good thoughts our friends and family sent out for Dan's surgery and speedy recovery, and I hope they keep coming! Thanks y'all!! This is just what came to me through a friend who knows how very much I adore my dog Riley, and how much joy he brings to my life. Although I have to admit, I'm not real fond of him trying to eat off my plate, in fact I don't allow that at all, unless I'm done eating, but I do let him sleep in bed with me when Dan's gone and it's in the winter. He's too hot in the summer!!

Well, I have made it through today without getting on Facebook, so that's good....one day down, a whole bunch to go...I don't know if I'll make it or not.

Tomorrow, I am going with Jessica to look for wedding dresses. Jessica is one of our "adopted" kids. She is a friend of Megan's who came and lived with us after her mother deserted her in high school. She's been one of ours ever since and we love her dearly.Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-13755791479620829802012-08-10T15:30:00.001-06:002012-08-10T15:30:43.581-06:00FACEBOOK WITHDRAWALS!I have been challenged to stay off facebook for one full month. It's only the second day, and I can feel the withdrawals!! This is really going to be a challenge, and the only thing I think will help me through it will be this blog. Who knows, maybe it will be the beginning of a beautiful relationship with my blog and me. Maybe more people will become aware of my blog and will actually want to read it, cause right now, I don't think many people do.

Today is Jacob's 28th birthday. We are going to Samurai Gardens for dinner with Jake, Heather and Ben. I think we'll have a good time, and I think Jacob will really like his birthday presents. Heather and I went in halves on what we got him; a very nice Michigan hoodie and a pair of sweat pants! Jake is pretty easy to buy for....anything Michigan and he loves it!

Dan asked me yesterday if I thought I might like to sell the camper and go back to tent camping. We can go deeper into the woods when we are tent camping. We would have to sell the camper and buy a new tent...although we still have the old one, and we could use that for extra gear and or a dry room for when it's raining. It has a floor and the one Dan is looking at right now doesn't have one. We would also have to get something to tow behind the truck with all the camping gear in it. We couldn't put it in the truck cause the dogs would be back there.

There are just so many choices to make at this juncture of our lives. Stick around here, move somewhere else, keep the camper, buy a tent, go on a mission, travel, stay home....so many choices! Life is an open book for us right now. Let's hold on for the ride and see where we go!!!Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-35895184403071328462012-08-06T09:23:00.000-06:002012-08-06T09:23:31.521-06:00ALBERTA CANADAOne of the places Dan has wanted to go for a very long time is Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. Why Pincher Creek? Well, because it's the home of his very favorite author, Andy Russell. Andy was an outdoorsman extraordinaire. He was a guide, hunter, fisherman, packer, tracker, you name it, if it had anything to do with being out doors, Andy was into it. That is Dan in a nutshell too. Any of you who know him, know that he is a major hunter and outdoorsman. He loves to "commune with nature" and be out there just enjoying his solitude.

My friend Barb Michel let me know of a presentation that Andy Russell's son, Charlie Russell was putting on about changing how the average person feels about Grizzly bears. We are typically terrified of them, but Charlie showed us that the Grizzlies are "programed" to be fearful of humans by the way we treat them, and that is what makes them dangerous. He showed a slide show of him living with very wild bears on a Russian peninsula. Some of the photographs where incredibly beautiful. Those bears where amazing looking. There was one that was absolutely golden in color. I wish I had a picture of her, she was spectacular.

Our camping site was perfect, even though we don't normally like camping in campgrounds. We were in Beauvais Lake campground. They were full on reservations, but still had 3 "first come first serve" sites left, and we got the best of those. We had no one on the front door side of our camper, all there was was woods and then the road that lead out of the campground. On the back side of our camper was another family, however, while there wasn't really a lot of room between our spot and theirs, there was a lot of trees and other foliage between us, so it gave the illusion of a great deal of privacy. The only problem was their dog barking at our dogs a LOT. It was a collie, and VERY annoying, but, Beau and Riley did really well at not barking back, so that was good.

We spent some time at Harvest Festival where we saw lots of old tractors, cars and pioneer stuff. It was nice, but it was hot, and Riley was yankin' on my arm every time he saw another dog. He was being such a jerk!! I ended up with a headache and we left before we had seen everything we wanted to. I really need to work with him more!

One thing that was really funny was as soon as we crossed the border into Canada, the speed limit signs changed and just said 100 that was all, just 100, I was like WOW!!! We can drive 100 mph in Canada....and then Dan reminded me that it wasn't mph, but rather kph. so 100kph is more like 60mph.

One nice thing, is that it wasn't hot at all really.....the warmest it got was 75ish, and as opposed to the triple digits we've had down here, Dan and I actually threw out the idea of moving up there, at least in the summer! It was so pretty, the weather was so nice...But I'd have to figure out their money system. Their gas was about 4 bucks a gallon in American money. I just don't quite get the exchange rate, which isn't surprising since I'm mathematically challenged!

You can see the pictures from this on my Facebook page, I hope you enjoy them. We certainly had a wonderful time. As Dan said on our way home...this was by far one of the very best camping trips we've ever been on!
Poor guy has a miserably sore throat, so we are not going camping after all. We have missed more weekends of camping than we have gone. That makes me sad, but oh well, it's only a very short time until retirement, and we'll be on permanent vacation!

So, since there isn't much going on, I guess this will be the shortest blog entry ever!Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-67587604720575392032012-07-21T12:38:00.001-06:002012-07-21T12:38:14.331-06:00The New Bathroom

The finished project. Dan did a great job, and the cedar paneling smells wonderful!

So, after all the years we've lived in this house and HATED the back bathroom, we finally took out that old nasty jetted tub (that didn't work) and put in a very nice shower unit. It's 4 feet long, has a seat and some shelves.

Our renter is out of town, and we really wanted to get it finished before he came home, so we cancelled our weekend of camping the the Messemer's so we could get this done. I really, really like it, and we're hoping Darryl will too.
It's one of my favorite rodeos that we go to each year. The only bummer was that this year, we didn't get grand-stand tickets and ended up sitting in the direct sunshine in over 90 degree heat. We were so hot, we ended up leaving early so I missed my very favorite events which are the mutton busting, bull riding and wild horse races. If you don't know what any of those are, just ask, I'll be happy to tell you all about them!

I got some awesome pictures and I'll post some here, and they are on my Facebook page as well.

One of the things I like most about being out there camping is the quiet, and the chances we have to see wild life, and even buildings. I love barns, old broken down ones that are barely standing, bright red new ones ready to give years of service, it doesn't matter, I just love them, and I don't know why, except perhaps because of my deep and abiding love of horses, and barns keep horses safe and warm.

I took a picture of Picket Pin Ranch headquarters on this trip just to show how big it is. The buildings were really far away, and it gives you an idea of how huge Montana ranches can be.

I also got some fun pictures of us fishing, although neither of us got anything, we had fun. We were in Grizzly country, so we carried our bear spray and had our dogs and guns close by at all times. We saw some bears, but they weren't too close to our camp, Dan got some pictures of one of them through his spotting scope. He put his little camera up to the spotting scope lens and snapped the pictures. He did pretty good at it!

Now we are home, and tomorrow it's back to the grind for Dan, but, he only has a little under 2 months left before he retires!! we are super excited!

So, ttfn my friends, hope you have a wonderful day!

I have had some difficult health issues over the last many months. I have ended up in the hospital with reflux pneumonia 4 times now, and one time with diverticulitis (sp?)
I think we have figured out the problem now though and hopefully am on the road to recovery. I am walking each day again. Some days I need to use my inhaler, other days I don't. I started out just a half hour a day, and didn't get very far, but each day I am going a little further and a little longer. I am proud of myself and Dan is very relieved that things seem to be so much better. The last time I landed in the hospital was VERY scary for him. We were camping and about 3 am I started gurgling in my sleep. Dan thought maybe I was having a low blood sugar episode and tried to feed me, but I was not making any sense and just in a really bad way, so he put me in the truck and rushed the 100 miles back to Billings and to the hospital. I was admitted for 4 days.

We think the medication I was taking for my headaches was over medicating me and making me sleep too soundly so that I was aspirating my reflux and it was going into my lungs causing the pneumonia. I have quit taking that medication and am trying something new and so far I feel much better.

We went camping again the weekend after I got out of the hospital and it was wonderful. We even went back to the exact same spot we were before. Dan wants to go Elk hunting there this fall. He is hoping our Son-in-law, Victor will come up and go with him. He really likes Victor. Victor is a good man and Megan couldn't have done any better, but that's another story!

We are excitedly looking forward to Dan's retirement on Sept. 1st!! We have some great travel plans in place already, we are going to his nieces wedding on Sept. 30, and his nephew's wedding on the 22 of Sept. We are also going to New Mexico to see his mom, and Michigan to visit my family there and to go back to my old home town.

We now have 9 1/2 grand kids. Jake is married with one little boy, and another one on the way, due around Christmas.

David and Carrie, we know nothing about. We haven't heard from them in a couple years. Neither has anyone else. I don't know exactly why, but we hope they are happy, and wish them well.

Megan and Victor don't have any kids yet, but I'm hoping they'll start trying soon...a grandma can never start wishing too soon!!
Tuesday, the 17th, was a bitterly cold Montana day. Not surprising this time of year. I got up in the morning, took a shower on the other side of the house, got dressed and went to a Dr. appt I had. After the appointment, I went to Jake and Heather's for awhile to see them and Ben. While I was there, Myrna called me in tears. It was also the anniversary of Austin's death, so I jumped in my car and headed to her house. On the way, I called the Elders and asked them to stop at the house and put the dogs outside. (I had left them in that morning because it was so crazy cold). They gladly did that, and when they did, I got a call telling me that there was water pouring into the basement and it was flooded.

We had a frozen and broken pipe. I hurried home from Myrna's (I had only been there for a few minutes) and as I opened the garage door, I could hear the sound of rushing water even before I opened the door of my car. Water was gushing from behind Dan's big toolbox in his workshop, although at the time, I wasn't sure where it was coming from.

The first thing we had to do was turn the water off. Elder Goodwin and I climbed down into the crawlspace and looked for the shutoff valve. After much crawling in a lot of dirt and through way too many spider webs, we finally found it RIGHT NEXT to the door of the crawl space! And to think Elder Goodwin had gone all over down there!!

Next thing was to get the shop vac down there and start cleaning up the water. I borrowed one from the Larsen's too, ours is pretty little, and they have a HUGE one, so the Elders and Jared Hammer all worked away sucking up the water.

I had called Dan, (by the way, did I mention Dan was out of town and driving home from Helena when all this happened?) and stressed him out (not my smartest move).

I called our insurance agent and he gave me the name of some restoration and disaster clean up companies. I ended up hiring "Faithful Restoration". I liked that they are a Christian based company and I liked the attitude of the owner when he said that he would take care of everything for us.

He came over, and got a plumber for us, who didn't come until almost 9 pm. (so we had been out of water from about 1pm until 9pm) he found the burst pipe and fixed it.

Now we have a bunch of dehumidifiers and fans going all over the basement, in the laundry room and in the shop. Because we had no carpet downstairs, there was nothing but the walls to soak up the water, so the walls are wet about 2 feet or so up them. We don't know if they will be able to dry the walls or if they are going to have to cut parts of the walls out and replace them. The "drywall" is now "wetwall"!!

I am grateful that we were able to get the water back on so fast though, and get the restoration team on the job so fast. I'm also grateful that Farm Bureau has (so far) been SO easy to work with....the complete opposite of what Farmer's was after the hail storm 1 1/2 years ago. They were HORRIBLE to work with and as soon as we got everything fixed (which took FOUR months) we changed to Farm Bureau, who was who every contractor said was the best to work with.

Anyway, the fixing process goes on, and we listen to the hum of all the blowers and dehumidifiers as they do their job and we hope the damage is minimal....We have about a half a foot of snow, and the temperatures are bitter outside, so it's nice to be able to just snuggle up here at home, a home WITH water!!!Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-12188073093349329062011-12-28T17:07:00.005-07:002011-12-28T17:18:22.052-07:00NEW VEHICLES!Whew! What a whirlwind of activity in the last couple days. We traded in our big black diesel truck for a Malibu and a different truck. Now you might be thinking "are they crazy?" But no, we actually did it for a reason. You see, the diesel was eating us out of house and home, between the payments and the cost of fuel...it was crazy, so now, the two new vehicles' payment are cheaper combined that the payments on the one truck, plus we'll be saving tremendously on fuel.

Dan will drive the truck to go hunting and we'll use it for pulling our camper, but other than that, I'll drive the Malibu around town and that will save us big bucks!

Buying cars is always a huge thing though, and Dan and I are both exhausted from all the finagling and paperwork, but we are also very happy with what we have!
Here are some pictures!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimC8H6_8REKd4YihK1vLbYo_GWJ_0imX82RIeP7mHd8veg-VNqcoxiFkbgMslmg5uB7yNavi1-Zawqd_g3IR5vvtqhUWjduuBuRogN1KVJjuu3a-2sRXCk0Ebad291sI9kGjPsAznBlcM/s320/IMG_1252.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5691337210991056754" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwECVBG98D1eFd4fqFmgFbP7FFhqc4Vs417a0lATM-h9ffLJ6em_MqLatMydZ-1fSFrD6bZAO7hGAu1sbZ3sEoZjVShrVfb1VjlPd5l6lgSzFvz7Beqhh6F_0AhRVKKBeOG86WgWZxJN4/s320/IMG_0027.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5691337205273256418" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrftlT4gP6NmO8eRlXrCoiA7j55wa7swGUFmKXED4RLLVTzAggPl75bN9CZOzTt6hEXlaU0OSAalTPh9Q2Pvjomx18prW7Lt9fCDO9RHp9LK0ze1SyA3ep4QG3zqRRePfEy99y5QS4GxQ/s320/IMG_0025.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5691337201464460050" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwnr9f5GmQVgXrQfdyxwtF2JWwdZ9L7F_a7CKfU4elL_fyQy4ml5KJnYVKILA51zC1iTqK_6YUa8RMfvvN1UVYQbaoRIbC_UARQreeOtl00Ci6k_Ffb4XUVMdir_rs4Klk1JUMruGTM1s/s320/IMG_1255.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5691337216094291506" />Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-26268100721490768712011-12-23T11:45:00.009-07:002011-12-23T12:49:32.993-07:00END OF THE YEAR RUSH!Boy have we been busy! It's been a great last couple weeks, and now we are winding down to the end of this year and the beginning of a new year. First let me do a little reviewing of the past year, and then I'll look forward a little.

The last year was a great one. A few babies born, a wedding, a visit from Megan and Victor, several visits from Liz, Doug and the kids, a trip to Missouri to see Danny, Jen and the kids for Nate's baptism, Thanksgiving with Dan's Aunt Rosann, Missionaries living with us again, the healing of my headaches, several great camping trips, trips to New Mexico, Utah Nebraska and Las Vegas.

The babies that were born are Benjamin, Jake and Heather's boy, Leeam, Alma Jean and Doug's boy, and Tyler, Leo and Liz's boy. Yuppers, all boys! They are all adorable and we are so blessed to have them. Of our 9 grandkids, only 2 are girls, Lilly and Audrey.

Jacob and Heather finally got married on Dec. 16th and it was a very nice, simple ceremony. Not too large and everyone had a great time. Megan and Victor were able to come up for Jake and Heather's wedding and it was amazing to see them. Hard to say good-bye when they left. We had our family Christmas while they were here and it was wonderful to be able to introduce Megan and Victor to our family traditions.

We were very happy to be invited to Nate's baptism and to be able to go. Of course, NOTHING was going to keep us away once we knew we were invited. On the way, we stopped in Minnesota to have Thanksgiving dinner with Dan's Aunt Rosann. It was a wonderful dinner and we were grateful for the family time we had with them.

We were able to go to Las Vegas for Dan's work and while we were there we were able to see my brother and one of my nephews. We had a nice dinner with them and it was great to see them again. I don't get to see Frank very often and Christopher didn't even remember ever meeting me before. Kinda sad huh?

I had many health issues last year and was in and out of the hospital numerous times, in ICU once (I almost died of an accidental overdose of Fentynal). We spent thousands of dollars on medical care and found no relief for my headaches until I went to see Dr. Spencer Jones DC and Jodi Dodge LMT. Between the two of them, I FEEL GREAT!!! Jodi is an amazingly talented Massage Therapist, she really gets in there and does some deeeeeeep massage. The first time I went to her, she made me cry, and I was sore for the next few days, but between that and the chiropractic adjustment, my headaches disappeared almost instantly! Did I mention that I FEEL GREAT!!!

I was also diagnosed with having Bi-polar disorder this past year, and after quite some time of adjusting medications, I am also feeling much better in that area too. I am sleeping through the night and my moods have become quite stable. I am happy not to be on an emotional roller coaster anymore. My self-confidence is slowly coming back and I'm feeling like I can start living again. I can't begin to tell you how good that feels.

So, that's been kind of a year in review, now let's look ahead. I just talked about how much better I'm feeling both emotionally and physically right? Well, my chiropractor is planning on going into private practice and Jodi is going with him...Dr. Jones has offered me the position of being his office manager!!! I told him about my bi-polar and that it's just getting under control, and of course he knows about the headaches, cuz he's the one who cured them!! I am very honored that he would want me to come work for him. He is sending me to a training at the end of January down in Phoenix, AZ. That will be a nice place to go to get away from Montana in January!!

Hopefully Megan and Victor will have a baby in the coming year, and that will add to our growing list of grandbabies. how we love them!

Dan also plans to retire this coming year, so that will be awesome! what a roll reversal it will be for me to be at work, and him to be able to be home!

So, I'm going to post some pictures...some may be repeats, but I hope you'll enjoy them anyway.

We wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, prosperous New Year.
Love,
Dan and Mari
<img style="float:left; It was a wonderful service, and later we went back to their house for some munchies and for Nate to open a few gifts...he said it was just like is birthday again (which was just on the 20th)

We were grateful for the time we were able to spend with Danny and Jen and the kids. Jen's parents were here too, and we' hadn't seen them for a long time. How wonderful it is to know our grandchildren are being taught the principles of the gospel and that they chose to accept it by being baptized.

We love you Nate and are very proud of you!

Us with Nate

Dan and Danny with Nate
Sparky and The Professorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15323122806018492753noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-836463624784521109.post-60015054435869415622011-11-24T19:48:00.005-07:002011-11-24T20:10:05.564-07:00THANKSGIVINGToday is Thanksgiving. We have SO much to be thankful for. We have a Father in Heaven who loves us and wants us to be happy. We have a Savior who died for us, for all our sufferings, pains, sins, hurt and misdeeds. We have the love that Dan and I rejoice in every day. He continues to be my life, and I cherish every moment we have together, we have awesome family, and love our children and grandchildren so much. We have fantastic friends are are grateful for all of you as well.

We had a wonderful day today with Dan's Aunt Rosann, his cousin Jeff and Jeff's wife, Sue and their kids, Walker, Devon and Carson. Rosann is a great cook and everything was delicious. I made two of my buttermilk pies and we transported them in a cooler with ice around them. One we ate today with Dan's family, and we are taking the other one to Missouri with us tomorrow as we head on to Nathan's baptism.

Nate is getting baptized on Saturday at 10am. I will most likely miss my Michigan/Ohio State game, which is something that hasn't happened in years, but, Nate's baptism is much more important.I am posting some picture of today....from family, to things on the farm to an amazing sunset, enjoy them, and I'll post more from Nate's baptism later on.

<img style="float:left;
